PINOCCHIO music theatre
On a nasty morning of Carnival in the year 1876, Collodi remembers that he still has to settle a debt. He walks to his favorite coffeehouse, the 'Elveticchino,' calls his publisher and begins with the story... After the musical's premiere at the Opera House of Zurich, Switzerland, the paper 'Welt am Sonntag' reported: "Weill has a successor after all". This title described effectively the character of "Pinocchio," which is much closer to the European tradition of musical theatre than to the American musical. The music of "Pinocchio" seems direct, original, and blunt, just like a Banda of Tuscany, managing to become stuck in ones head.
Commissioned and premiered and at the Opera of Zurich, Switzerland.
