TOMMY FORTMANN

TANGO CATOLICO & BLUES

The series of compositions called 'Catholic' are samples of an attitude, where the word catholic is to be understood in its meaning of universal, unifying or including everything.

"The Catholic Tango is very original and deals with the problems of contemporary music by connecting variegated formalistic ideas with expressiveness which communicates to the listener immediately. The beautiful beginning is strictly structured and develops into the first main theme which consists of a dodecaphonic series with complementary intervals. Following a few variations, the rhythmic structure achieves a crossing of Ragtime and Tango and is ending in the pure form of the Argentine Tango." (Franco de Gemini Rome)

"The Catholic Blues is an all time favorite, a little treat for aficionados: a dodecaphonic composition - admirably interpreted by the Accademia Amiata Ensemble - where all formalistic questions are simply the means of carrying the overall idea of a Blues." (Matteo Silva - Florence)

Premiered at the festival 'Toscana delle Culture'’
