TOMMY FORTMANN

Tommy Fortmann

was born in Switzerland; -besides his interest in golf (he was champion) - he became in the seventies a successful songwriter. He wrote his first ‘Hit’ at the age of 16, which was followed by over a hundred titles released in more than 27 countries. Famous German Rock stars as Udo Lindenberg, Jürgen Drews, Love Generation etc. - but also British artists like Alexis Korner or Italian singers like Daniela Davoli played his songs. He also composed the music for the musical ‘Tell’ (1977), which created a scandal amongst the Swiss. The LP was almost in all German-speaking charts.
At the age of 26 he stopped his Rock-career and continued to study composition and instrumentation. As a ‘serious’ composer he wrote several works for chamber music an Oratorio, 2 Symphonies, a Requiem and three music-plays for theaters, commissioned by the towns of Zurich and Bern, the Swiss government, the EU, the Opera of Zurich, Open Opera St.Gallen, Mozart Festival Trento etc.
In the middle of the eighties he moved with his family to Tuscany where he founded the Accademia Amiata. In addition to his activity as a composer, he conducted the festival 'Toscana delle Culture' during some years. His life in Tuscany was interrupted by a five-year stay in Costa Rica.
